Adirondack Cycling & Camping Weekend Tour
Paul Smith’s College campground, Paul Smiths NY
July 10, 2025 – July 13, 2025 (3 nights)
$150 Per Lean-To
WAITLIST
If a rustic camping experience is what you crave, this may be your dream come true. There’s no running water or electricity at the campground but the VIEW…glimpses of Lower St. Regis Lake and the surrounding mountains. This is an ideal location for cyclists wishing to step out of their backyard without having to travel too far.
Cycling: The ideal participant will enjoy rides that are not pancake flat. The climbing is consistent with gradual, more alpine-like ascents. You will be treated to majestic rides with river, mountain and sweeping vistas. It is recommended that you are a C* level cyclist and above. These will not be hammering rides, and each participant will tackle the large climbs at his or her own pace.
Lodging: Lean-tos! A lean-to sleeps 2 comfortably with luggage and bikes. There are 2 outhouses and good internet/cell service. Shower options include facilities at the college up the road, bringing a portable shower, or bathing in the lake.
Meals: Breakfasts range from $10-15 per person in town or we can eat at the campsite, lunches $10-20, and dinners $20-40 per person at various restaurants.
Other activities in the area: Mt Van Hoevenberg, hiking, Lake Placid & Saranac Lake waterfront shops/eateries, Olympic center
Some other considerations: It’s a 5–6 hour drive. Check-in begins at 1 PM and we will meet at the college any time after 1 PM. Also, the roads in the campground are gravel and have tree roots so an SUV or truck is recommended. The leaders’ Subaru and Nissan Rogue do well. Parking will be by your lean-to. There is turn-around room down by the lake but may require a few “k” turns.
Cost: $150 per lean-to. Each site gets a key for the gate and there is a deposit of $25 (refundable upon return).
Tour includes: Lodging for 3 nights, happy hour, pizza the first night, and a group dinner.
Tour does not include: breakfast, lunch and one dinner, bike rentals/repairs/etc, tickets for activities, and getting to and from site.
Tour Leaders: Lynne Avery and Gary Tracy
Reservations: Tour is limited to 10 people, including leaders. Five lean-tos have been reserved. Tour registration will be open from Tuesday, November 12th, @ 6:00 pm through Thursday, November 14th @ 6:00 pm. To register, send an email to Lynne Avery at [email protected].
