BTCNJ’s 18th Annual Cycling Tour in Southern Vermont
Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-27, 2024
Our 18th annual late spring cycling weekend in beautiful southern Vermont will be Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-27, 2024. (We’ve only missed one year – 2020, due to COVID.) We will be staying again at our home away from home - the quintessential Vermont country inn - The Landgrove Inn (http://www.landgroveinn.com) - set in the gorgeous countryside between Manchester and South Londonderry.
Year after year, participants have enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Landgrove Inn, forming a close BTCNJ friendship with the welcoming innkeeper and staff, who are very much looking forward to seeing us - their BTCNJ friends - this May. The Inn has charming rooms (all with private bath), large and comfortable common areas, storage for bikes, beautiful grounds, outdoor pool, and a lovely dining room. We have reserved the entire Inn with space for 34. We’ll revisit our gorgeous and well-liked cycling routes in the surrounding area, with time to kick back and relax in the peaceful undeveloped surroundings of the Inn. It is Vermont so don’t expect flat riding, but the routes are crafted for all levels (some shorter and very manageable; others longer and more challenging; and many in between). Any COVID safety protocols current at the time of the tour will be followed by the Inn, and by participants, as required and as appropriate.
The Inn is set on a dirt road, so the starts will be remote, but well worth the drive - a small trade-off for this lovely setting. In addition to great cycling, there are lots of other things to see and do: farmer’s markets, hiking (Hapgood Pond and the Catamount Trail are nearby), canoeing, kayaking, quarry swimming, Bromley Alpine Slide; great shopping (antiques, crafts and outlets); art galleries (this will be Open Studio Weekend) and museums; historic sites; quaint towns like Weston with the Vermont Country Store. And, the country store in Pawlet (on one of our favorite cycling routes) has been re-imagined and re-opened as Mach’s Market (sandwiches & wood-fired pizza). Note: No TVs or phones in the rooms. Limited Wifi in the lounge areas only. Virtually no cell service, but you can use the Inn’s phone for short calls. This is a peaceful place!
