See the   Join Us !   item in the menu on the left side of the home page.

➔ Note that you have to sign-up for rides (which you can only do as a member).

Click on "Ask us about this ride!" if you want more information about the ride you are interested in.

Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Riding with BTCNJ

All rides "roll" (depart) 15 minutes after the listed start time. This gives people time to set-up (check their bikes, add air to their tires, etc) and get signed-in.

Club rides are classified by four properties, which, together, give some indication of how difficult the ride is: the (1) length, the (2) speed / pace, (3) terrain, (4) surface (paved or unpaved).

Keep in mind that there are   Rider Responsibilities   and   Group Riding Rules   to participate on a club ride. Helmets are required on all club rides. Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

➔ Make sure you are carrying a tube appropriate for your tire and any special tools needed to remove your wheels.

Come join us on this short fun ride after long weekend rides. We will do the Monday ride at a moderate pace with coffee/rest stop at Wally's Bagels in Closter. We always regroup on hills, turns and the speed will be to keep the group together. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
The primary purpose of these Monday night rides is to work together safely in a pace line. An increase in speed will be the result of improved conditioning and efficiency. Everyone pulls before rotating to the back. If you can't pull, rotate off immediately and draft. If we all work together an average of 20mph can be realized by mid-summer. There will be a variations in ability and though it is tempting to drop people and go for the fastest average I would appreciate it if we stayed together. I would rather finish together at 18mph than have some finish at 20mph. Just as in UCI time trials the time will be taken when I cross the finish and not the first person. Come out and try this ride. It's fun working together. If you have trouble staying with the group I will drop back to work with you. Note: Oak street is residential. Please respect 25mph speed limit. Speed limit applies to cars only. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
We are back to leading rides for the 2024 season. Join us for a Monday morning recovery ride or just an easy-paced B Ride. Familiar Montville Route. The classic loop to Lincoln Park. Now back to Mondays for the rest of the season! This will be a middle B ride. Optional pizza afterwards at Cucina 347 in Oakland. Meet by the railroad tracks. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Monday Morning to Lincoln Park and back... stop at the park for snack / restroom break Low end of C*.. a nice start to the season ( at least for me) Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Our regular Monday night ride. Easy and flat. Bathrooms at start and stop at DD for a short break before we turn around and head back. May vary the route some throughout the season as we see fit. [Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ] Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Join me for a fun, relaxed, no drop ride of 53 miles to East Hanover. We will regroup as needed. Refreshments at Sorrento Bakery near mile 25. I expect we will average 15.5 to 16.5 mph. I start from Midland Park, if you want a round trip of 15 more miles Text me. We have to leave Midland Park 30 minutes before we meet in Oakland. If the first person to signup wants a slightly shorter ride to Sorrento we have an alternative: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35790999 48 miles, 1050 Ft of climb. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Join me on a nice easy paced ride to Little Tor & back. Ride is meant to be a “non-stopper” but I am flexible with regard to the groups need for a coffee break. So what do you say…go for it & sign up now! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
A nice to the Titanic Deli in Congers, NY with some climbing that just can't be avoided. Please note: Since this ride is about enjoyment and not about speed, the ride leader promises that as long as a true "B" pace (13.0 to 14.9 mph) can be kept by a rider, then NO ONE will be dropped. If you like to ride as fast as possible, are looking to set a new personal speed record or if you need to be back at a certain time, then this may not be the ride for you. Thank you Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

We’ll stop at a few viewpoints across the bridge and turn around in Tarrytown. Fun Trip. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

This will be an evening training ride in the official B* range. The goal is to ride in a comfortably paced group taking turns on pulls while minimizing drops. (If you are currently doing B* rides at 18+ avg., this may not be the ride for you :) Route will be posted before ride date. Should be back by dark, but front and rear lights encouraged. 5:30 start from lot. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Meet at 5:30 - leave at 5:45. Sunset is at 7:53. We expect to average somewhere between 16 and 17. This is an evening ride with heavy traffic. We'll target an overall end average in the high 15 to low 16 mph range. As always, we’ll be slower in the first half and faster on the way back. We'll be leaving the Duck Pond right behind Olivia's group. Please be on time, wear brighter colors and don’t forget your lights. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Our traditional up and back Wednesday night Spin around Bergen County. This is a peppy ride regrouping at top of hills (there is really only one) and at traffic signals. I expect the ending average to be a HIGH B (for flats so expect something in the mid to high 16s due mostly to the long downhills on the way back). Ride rolls at 5:30 sharp. This is a fast ride but is mostly flat. Dress appropriately, wear brighter colors and don’t forget your lights. If your plans change, as a courtesy, please unregister so we are not waiting for you. Please be on time. Any weather updates will be posted on the website by 4:15pm, so be sure to check back here before heading out to the ride. Rider leader reserves the right to alter the route based on the overall speed of the group and as daylight necessitates *** Please feel free to reach out to the ride leader with any questions. Pizza after if interested. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
A scheduling conflict is causing me to celebrate Cinco De Mayo BTCNJ style a couple of days early, i.e., a great combination of bicycling, the natural scenic beauty of the Great Swamp ... and Mexican food! Yes, one can enjoy dining on delicious Mexican food at the Great Swamp ... one just needs to know where to look. So off we go on about as flat a 29 mile route as one can ride in the Swamp and at Mile 18 we'll be stopping to enjoy the lunch menu at Casa Maya Restaurant. Note that we will be dining indoors at Casa Maya (no outdoor seating), so bring a lock for your bike. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
... and so am I. Please join me on an easy meander through Ramsey, Allendale and Warwick. D RIDERS LOOKING TO ADVANCE TO C ARE ALSO WELCOME. Terrain is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED! Bathroom at mile 4.5. As a friendly reminder: Bring water, a helmet and have your bike in good working order. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

  • Thursday Morning Social: The Institution - 2024 Field Trip #3: Springtime Classic: Montgomery to New
  •  Ask us about this ride!
It's finally spring and everything is blooming, which makes it the perfect time for a nice ride to New Paltz to enjoy all the beautiful colors of spring. We'll stop for lunch in New Paltz and then turn around and head back. The 2024 cycling season marks the 31st anniversary of the Thursday Morning Social (TMS), the BTCNJ's one and only institution. As always, the Thursday Morning Social rides will continue to provide positive bicycling activities for wayward adults, so please come and be part of these fabulous and very social rides for the 2024 season. The institution will continue to offer emotional, mental, physical, and occupational therapy along with weekly supervised outings led by the highly trained staff. These weekly field trips will be led with love to ensure a fun, activity-filled, leisurely paced B ride. Of course the safety of all riders continues to be our number one concern. A relaxed lunch stop provided for even more socializing. Newcomers, retirees, and all institution residents are welcome. Please note: since this ride is not about speed, the ride leader promises that as long as a true "B" pace (13.0 to 14.9 mph) can be kept by a rider, then NO ONE will be dropped. If you like to ride as fast as possible, are looking to set a new personal speed record or if you need to be back at a certain time, then this may not be the ride for you. Thank you. Remember that even though the TMS ride is the longest-running weekday morning ride in the BTCNJ, now in its 31st Anniversary year, our best rides still lie ahead!!! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Join us for a pleasant ride through Wyckoff and Ramsey. Avg pace 10-11 mph. Park at the Wyckoff Library lot at the far end from the library entrance. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

There will be an easy option for individuals to shorten mileage to about 13 miles. Elevation gain is a mere 150 feet. And no need to cross RT23. Restroom stops planned. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

UPDATED ROUTE AND START TIME FROM PREVIOUS POSTING. I am posting this ride in preparation for my Italy tour next month with BTCNJ. We are going to ride multiple consecutive days and would like to get a couple long rides in. I'm hoping that some people signed up for the tour will join us. Gary is not signed up for Italy, he just enjoys these rides 🙂 This is a great area to ride in with little traffic and multiple places to stop for food / drink. Everyone is welcome. Faster riders can go at their own pace but we will regroup and sweep for the slower riders. No killer climbs but enough to give a challenge. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

We will ride comfortably and only go as fast as the slowest rider, we will stop and regroup as needed, NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED.
