You have to be a BTCNJ member to participate in a ride (which you have to sign up for).

Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Riding with BTCNJ

All rides "roll" (depart) 15 minutes after the listed start time. This gives people time to set-up (check their bikes, add air to their tires, etc) and get signed-in.

Club rides are classified by four properties, which, together, give some indication of how difficult the ride is: the (1) length, the (2) speed / pace, (3) terrain, (4) surface (paved or unpaved).

Keep in mind that there are   Rider Responsibilities   and   Group Riding Rules   to participate on a club ride. Helmets are required on all club rides. Class 1 or 3 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Minors. Persons under the age of eighteen must join the Club with a parent or legal guardian in a family membership, and must be accompanied, at a reasonable distance (within sight of each other), by a parent or legal guardian (in the membership) on all Club rides and events.

Two climbs up Pine Brook and Jacksonville to earn our post-ride snacks. We will regroup at the top of climbs. The weather is warming so bring hydration. This is a no drop ride.

We will be riding to Towaco on mostly quiet back roads averaging between 12 and 13 miles per an hour on this fairly flat route, but will adjust to the pace of the riders. Our route will meet at the Great Oak Gravel lot on Doty road, and when the ride is complete, we DRIVE to the Oakland Rec Center to join in on the festivities. After lunch climb storm king, one of the top 10 bike roads around. remember we will be going down mine hill road that is freshly paved avoiding this climb. Easy C ride. The ride is relatively flat and hills gradual and easily rideable. Ride will take about 3 hours total. One hour there and one hour back and possibly one house at New Bridge Landing. It is Pinkster Day at New Bridge Landing so there may be a $12.50 charge if you want to enter, but you don't have to. Bring your own food and water. The St. Pierre sisters are riding the entire 1600 mile length of the East Coast Greenway to advocate for Greenways, and we can also advocate for the proposed Northern Valley Greenway in Bergen County. We can join them on Monday May 18 for the Princeton to New Brunswick section, which is all or mostly on the D&R Canal Towpath, a gravel path. Please ride a bike with at least 28mm tires (and 35mm recommended), and bring plenty of water/snacks, as I don't know of a good place to stop. Because I can't figure out a good way to shuttle bikes and people from one end to the other, let's meet in Piscataway at the Johnson Park Cricket Parking Lot (https://maps.app.goo.gl/YbHwgu9q7fLauuxk7 ) at 1:15 for a 1:30 start time. We'll ride towards Princeton until we meet them, then turn around and accompany them back. We will ride north along the marvelous shore from Long Branch thru Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright to the sights along the Sandy Hook bicycle trail and lunch at the new Mule Barn at Ft Hancock, Tommy’s in Sea Bright or Off the Hook. Folks, we are Graveling in the High Country. Here are the details for our non-stop Wednesday gravel/mixed surface ride. Please be aware that this will be a very challenging route. We have two options for this ride: - Option 1: Follow the RWGPS as indicated, which is 45 miles with 3,764 feet of elevation. - Option 2: At mile marker 20, instead of turning left onto Valley Brook Road, continue straight onto Turtleback Road. This option reduces the total distance to 38 miles and the elevation to approximately 3,100 feet. Additionally, at mile marker 31, there will be an opportunity to stop for snacks and hydration at the gas station or the 7th Heaven Market. [ Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

Join me in a Slow C*. We start behind Brooks Brothers (take a left at the first light in Manchester if you are coming from route 7). We meet behind the stores. This is a beautiful ride, mostly on back roads. There are a number of climbs but they are worth it. This will be a slow ride since I haven’t done much riding as well as other challenges.
