Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Riding with BTCNJ

All rides "roll" (depart) 15 minutes after the listed start time. This gives people time to set-up (check their bikes, add air to their tires, etc) and get signed-in.

Club rides are classified by four properties, which, together, give some indication of how difficult the ride is: the (1) length, the (2) speed / pace, (3) terrain, (4) surface (paved or unpaved).

Keep in mind that there are   Rider Responsibilities   and   Group Riding Rules   to participate on a club ride. Helmets are required on all club rides. Class 1 or 3 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

➔ Make sure you are carrying a tube appropriate for your tire and any special tools needed to remove your wheels.

Bring your lights and ride safe, Thank you 😊.something simple and fun . Come join us if you can. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
One objective: To keep a solid group of A list riders in a tight pace-line for the entire ride. To avoid blowing up the ride, we'll throttle it back if a lap comes in over 20mph. Non-stop, two hour event. Two very productive hours on the bike to maintain or gain fitness! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Hopefully a better chance for a nicer weather than Wednesday. Tonight's ride will be a shorter one to Elmer's only, skipping the church and the park. We'll be aiming at ending average in the low 16 mph range or better - it's a much flatter route. As always, we’ll be slower in the first half and faster on the way back. Please be on time, wear brighter colors and don’t forget your lights. Route maybe be altered, depending on the weather. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Wheels down at 605. This is our weekly start of the weekend / end of the week ride. Nice and easy pace up eSRR to South Monsey to Xmas and back on wsrr. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Join me for a ride to Patisserie Didier Dumas with one climb to justify the pastries. We will regroup as needed. This will be a relax ride and not a hammer fest (famous last words 🙂). Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
  • We will probably average around 15.5-17.0 mph for the complete ride.

  • Last week's average ranged from 16.5 to 18mph.

  • We ride together from the start to Long Meadow (Mile 3.8).

  • We then regroup at Warwick Brook Road (Mile 10.2) and ride together to the start of Arden Valley Road (Mile 15.6) and the 850' climb. At Tiorati Circle (Mile 10.7), we regroup and have a short break at the facilities.

  • From Tiorati Circle, you can continue with the course or take Seven Lakes Road back to the start and reduce the ride by 7.5 miles and 775' of climbing.

As a B* leader my goal is to have a safe and enjoyable ride. Riders have the route and can go as fast as they wish. Passing me is OK and encouraged if you want to ride faster - just know where you're going as we can't chase after lost riders. Those that pass me aren't considered 'off the ride' - they are just ahead of me! This is a classic and challenging ride - enjoy! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Join us for a ride on mostly quiet, mostly freshly paved roads to Denville. Coffee stop at SmartWorld Coffee. Ride will be high B/low B* pace - expect around 15.5 -16.5 MPH. Park in the back of stop and shop. If you see the Kiddie Dome please go to the other side. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. No drop and everyone climbs at their own pace and we regroup at summits.. Snack and potty stop at Tiorati circle and if the group wants, we can stop for another quick bathroom break near the end of the ride at the Lautenberg center. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
An assortment of terrains, mid to hi B pace.
No bathroom at start; hold it until Fairfield Rec Center 3.5 miles in (don’t park bike against building).
One climb up Jacksonville, regrouping at the church.
We will try the new rail trail on the return leg, then maybe a quick stop in Lincoln Park. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Friday's forecast is calling for comfortable temps. So let's do our ride on flat terrain in Pequannock / Pompton Plains. We'll aim for an avg pace of 11mph (high C level).Elevation gain is a mere 150 feet; and no need to cross RT23. Two restroom stops planned. Bring plenty of water and a suitable spare tube. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
CALLING ALL D RIDERS (and C riders who like a leisurely ride), looking for a short, no stress D paced ride. Russ and I will be leading the 12 miler on the Rally and if you are considering riding at the event but don't know what to expect then this ride is for you! The terrain is rolling with one or two tiny hills. Last year we had several kids on the ride, so you know YOU CAN DO THIS TOO. NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED! As a friendly reminder: Bring water, a helmet (mandatory), and have your bike in good working order. Please note that we will not be leaving from the Campgaw parking lot but from the old picnic area, which is about 100 yards past the yellow gates on your left. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Come on out and join us on another gravel adventure in Bedminster Horse and Estate country. We will regroup as needed at tops of climbs or as otherwise needed. Effort is anticipated to be equivalent to a "B" road ride. We will have a rest stop around mile 25 at the Black River General Store, Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

INT. PIERMONT - DAY
The sun hangs low over the Hudson, casting long shadows across the deserted Piermont streets. A pack of bikers stand around in a deserted car park, their bikes gleaming in the morning light.

MR. WHITE
Alright, you dam bastards, saddle up. We ain't got all day.
They spin their legs in unison, a symphony of mechanical fury echoing through the quiet streets.

MR. BLONDE (Pulling on his gloves)
Let's hit that road, boys. Croton Dam's waiting for us.
They tear off down the road, engines roaring like thunder. The wind whips through their hair, a rush of adrenaline as they throttle down the asphalt.

EXT. HUDSON RIVER - DAY
The bikes hug the river's edge, the Hudson glinting under the sun's first hurrah. MR. ORANGE leads the pack, his eyes fixed ahead, determination etched on his face.

MR. PINK (Laughing)
Dam, ain't this a ride?
They lean into the curves, each twist and turn a dance of carbon and rubber on the black ribbon of road. MR. BROWN whoops, his laughter swallowed by the rush of the wind.

EXT. CROTON DAM - DAY
They roll up to the Croton Dam, a monolithic testament to engineering. The sweat on their legs glistens from the sun high in the sky.

MR. BLUE
Damn, boys. Look at that view.
They stop pedaling, dismounting with a sense of accomplishment. MR. WHITE sucks on a gel, taking in the sight with a quiet satisfaction.

MR. BLONDE
We made it, dam it. The whole dam way.

They stand in silence, the only sound the rush of water below. For a moment, they're not Reservoir Dogs or criminals. They're just bike riders, chasing the dam tarmac on two wheels.

FADE OUT

Rest stop at Tazza Cafe, mile 35, and we'll stop for water earlier if needed! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

A flat ride to Sorrento's, then we'll have a little fun with a moderate climb leading to a nice descent on Greenbank, followed by a climb up Jacksonville which has its own nice descent. Then it’s all flat after that. This will be a B ride, so expect no more than 17 on the flat parts, perhaps a bit slower on the return, regrouping when necessary and at the top of any climbs which I always end up sweeping. This has been a popular ride, so any ride leaders who sign up should be prepared to lead a group. Copycat rides are also encouraged for different levels and to keep the groups at a manageable size. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Ride to Coffee Ride Cafe. No drop. Expected pace 15.0 mph. This is the first time I created a GPS; let’s see if it is accurate. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Pleasant ride on scenic Rockland roads. Rest stop at Rockland Lake picnic area at mile 20. Back along Nyack Beach State Park. Climb at your own pace. No one will be dropped. For strong C* riders. Porta-Potty near start. Bring plenty of hydration and a snack. Forecast is for HOT. Plan is to be back by noon Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
This ride is comfortable and beautiful. The trail is paved. And it is flat, flat, flat (except for one noticeably small hill). We will be pushing for the higher end of “the C average speed on flats 11 – 12 mph“, if I can keep up. There will be no cue sheet; we can get lost together; no one will be dropped as long as they are maintaining a C pace. Meet in the 4th parking lot. Questions: call/text 'twix 07:00 AM & 07:00 PM. -_-_- Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
No restroom at the start. Low traffic, scenic and EZ C pace.. Nice tour for newbies or experienced riders. There are many turns, BUT we’re mostly OFF the main roads, making for a safer ride..Starting in Bergenfield, then making our way up to the Oradell Reservoir before heading through some quiet, tree lined streets in Haworth, where we'll stop for the restrooms and a break in the park. Bring liquid, helmet, bike in good working order. NOTE: 95% of the ride is on paved roads. When we get to the reservoir, it is a hard packed dirt/gravel trail for about a mile. I tested it with my hybrid AND a road bike . All ok. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
A gentle ride for the novice rider. The trail is paved, and it is mostly flat (not counting overpasses) except for one or two short hills. We will not average more than a "D" pace. Bring a bicycle in good working order, helmet, water, snack?, etc. Some questions entertained, emphasis on riding safety and technique. Meet in the 4th parking lot. Questions: call/text 'twix 07:00 AM & 07:00 PM. -_-_- Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Let's ride to the Titanic Coffee & Deli. This is a no drop ride; we'll regroup as needed. Moderate B* pace. Moving time approximately 3 hours. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
It's time to embark on a century ride through the charming counties of Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer, and Middlesex. It's a journey filled with light traffic and hills that are more like speed bumps (we promise!) ideal for a spirited B* team-oriented ride with regrouping as necessary. While the overall average speed is expected to be around 17-18 mph, be prepared to go significantly faster on the flats. We’ve strategically planned three key snack/meal stops, including a picturesque lunch break in Allentown, but remember to pack extra snacks and hydration for an unforgettable day on the road! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
Same as Olivia and Brian but not a fast. It's time to embark on a century ride through the charming counties of Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer, and Middlesex. It's a journey filled with light traffic and hills that are more like speed bumps (we promise!) ideal for a spirited B team-oriented ride with regrouping as necessary. A nice ride to the Titanic Deli in Congers, NY with some climbing that just can't be avoided. Early start time to (hopefully) avoid most of the afternoon heat. Please note: Since this ride is about enjoyment and not about speed, the ride leader promises that as long as a true "B" pace (13.0 to 14.9 mph) can be kept by a rider, then NO ONE will be dropped. If you like to ride as fast as possible, are looking to set a new personal speed record or if you need to be back at a certain time, then this may not be the ride for you. Thank you Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

We'll be returning to Cold Spring, but riding different variants of our routes than we've ridden so far this year. This is our most challenging area to ride due to the steep climbs. You will feel like you've accomplished something by the time you are done! It will be a warm day, but our route will keep us in the trees for most of the distance. We'll picnic at Foundry Dock Park after the ride. Kathy and Steve will bring a cooler with cold drinks and snacks. Important Notes: 1) We strongly urge everyone to bring extra water -- more than their usual two bottles. It will be hot and we'll be doing a lot of climbing before our first refuel stop. Bring lots of calories, too! 2) If the train is late, we will wait for riders. 3) We will have our usual three “pace groups”, which will differ in speed, distance, and intensity of climbing. The short and medium routes will ride entirely on actual roads, though some of these dirt roads can be in rough condition (e.g. Sunken Mine Rd). The Long Distance group will tackle the School Mountain Trail loop (wide tires encouraged). For those who don't like riding trails on their gravel bike, there is an alternative version of the Long Distance route. All Long Distance riders will reunite at Boyd's Corner Store at the midway point. ROUTES: Long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47680882 Long Without Trails: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47691283 Medium: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44307851 Short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44307940 Bailout (all groups): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42990486 START TIME: 8:00am - Drivers should get there *early* so they are ready to roll at 8:20am. - If the train is late, we will wait. START LOCATION: Foundry Dock Park in Cold Spring, NY (Train Station Parking Lot).. There is usually a portable toilet around. There are some public bathrooms (not always open). These are marked on the RidewithGPS route maps. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]

Let's have fun riding together safely in a pace line where everyone pulls (no more than 2 minutes) before rotating to the back. If we all work together an average of 20mph can be eventually achieved on this flat route. There will be a variations in ability but we would appreciate it if we stayed together until at least mile 17.5 (after Hamburg Turnpike traffic light). Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads.
