Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Riding with BTCNJ

All rides "roll" (depart) 15 minutes after the listed start time. This gives people time to set-up (check their bikes, add air to their tires, etc) and get signed-in.

Club rides are classified by four properties, which, together, give some indication of how difficult the ride is: the (1) length, the (2) speed / pace, (3) terrain, (4) surface (paved or unpaved).

Keep in mind that there are   Rider Responsibilities   and   Group Riding Rules   to participate on a club ride. Helmets are required on all club rides. Class 1 or 3 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

➔ Make sure you are carrying a tube appropriate for your tire and any special tools needed to remove your wheels.

Come meet us in Oakland for a fun ride to Parsippany-Troy Hills where we will grab some food at a nearby Starbucks. We are anticipating a moderate B* pace on this terrain classified as flat to rolling. I am coming off of an injury, so I'm hoping the pace doesn't get too fast. Great roads for 1-mile alternating pulls, please download the course. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Start with the climb out of Brookdale Park/Montclair to warm up, then lots of flatland until we climb back into Montclair (not via Francisco). Quick food stop in Lincoln Park at M21.Expect upper 14s/15 on the flats, slow w/regrouping on the climbs at start and finish. Happy to share the pull. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
There will not be a rest stop on this relatively short ride, but we can gather at one of the places in Watchung Plaza after the ride. We will meet at Local Coffee (107 Watchung Avenue). There is plenty of parking on Park Street. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Easy going ride to Towaco on mostly quiet back roads. Meet in front of the tennis courts, bathrooms are available at start. Lunch/snack stop at mile 20 in Lincoln Park where we can choose from Bagels, Empanadas , and the A&A market all of which offer outdoor seating seasonally. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
DUE TO TOMORROW'S LOW TEMPERATURES, THE START HAS BEEN MOVED TO 11:00 AM. If you've been waiting for a comfortable C ride on flat terrain, this is the ride for you. Time to start riding, now that the weather is a bit more reasonable. No restrooms at the start, but we'll head to Green View Park, about a couple of miles into the ride. True C pace and, of course, no one will be left behind. Hope you can join us. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

Wheels down at 605. This is our weekly start of the weekend/end of the week ride. Nice and easy pace up eSRR to stone church and back on wsrr. Coffee at Ridgewood Coffee afterwards. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Hey guys and gals. Come join me on a pre-weekend ride to Congers. It’s a slightly longer route so we will meet@9:30. Rest stop will be at Titanic deli/coffee shop. We will be going at a low to mid B* pace. We should be saving our legs for the longer more challenging rides on the weekend. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
It's spring, which means it's time to head out on beautiful Morris and Somerset County roads to one of my favorite stops, the Oldwick General Store. We'll do a low to moderate B* pace and stay together, regrouping at hills and turns. Lunch stop at mile 22, by which time we'll have done the lion's share of climbing. There's about a quarter mile of gravel at mile 37, which, if riders wish, we can avoid with a workaround. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Has it really been only 2 weeks since I (Doug) started riding in 2025? I had the audacity to exceed the C* category on the last ride I led. So now I'm doing easy in the B category...think low B (<13.5 mph) average. As always a little faster on the flats. No one will be dropped. Most importantly, lunch will be at Sorrento Bakery in East Hanover. It's Friday, so room temperature pizza is on their menu in addition to excellent deli and bakery offerings. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Paved rail trail through pretty scenery. We will go at least to the Mason Jar deli stop. We may go further before turning around. The trail goes as far as Middletown now. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Stop at Elmers. Some hills, but will wait for all, including me. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Just in case you need to get to the great outdoor! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Saturday, March 29, 2025
Quick stop at Cove Deli on the way back.
Matcha Latte and Pastries at Paris Baguette in Fort Lee at the end.
Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Moderate pace to Sparkill with a coffee stop at Noble cafe. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
The weather forecast for Saturday is unbelievable, and so is the fact that no one else has yet listed a ride, so I stole this route from Olivia because it's nice and rolling, which I will need, having done a hilly ride the day before. Olivia's plan was to stop at A & S bakery at mile 32, and who am I to quibble with that? We'll do a moderate B* pace and stay together, regrouping as needed. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
As the month of March is known for being a real roller coaster with the daily temps, this coming Saturday is going to be a real gift, so let's take advantage of it and roll through the Skylands region of NJ and NY to Warwick and Greenwood Lake - and not freeze our tootsies off or crud up our bikes to do it! A standard route up Clinton Rd. to UGL, then descend Brady into Warwick, and through the eastern part of the Wallkill Valley, then back on OC5 through Greenwood Lake. Exact rest stop places TBD (stay tuned), but Warwick is at mile 18 and Greenwood Lake is at mile 35 on the route. As usual SOP, safety first, we regroup as necessary, and good group cycling skills are emphasized. No signups = no ride, but I hope to see some of you. Ride on! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
It’s the usual tight formation, but a very slow TDM average to help everyone relax and get back in the groove for 2025. This TDM also includes the all-new Second Bump Circuit! (9 mile laps). Soft pedal at top of all bump(s) to minimize fragments. We will stick to the posted average. If someone drops and the current ride average is over 17.5mph, we soft-pedal to regroup. Calculated saddle time is 2'-35” @ 17.5mph. Bring a Gel and enough water. It's a non stop event and by design, wheels will be in constant motion the entire ride. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
For those of you looking for a few extra miles as well as some hills this is the ride for you! Few cars along with maybe an extra smear. Nobody gets dropped so no GPS needed. We will go up WSRR and back on ESRR. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
This is my first ride of the season. We will go to the Coffee Ride Cafe. Take a short break and return. The forecast is warm weather. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
This is our regular ride from PBP to Piermont. There is a bathroom at the beginning of the ride and we will stop at D’Ercoles for donuts and another bathroom break. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Just saw the temperature for Saturday and we cannot miss a great riding day. This will be a comfortable and casually paced ride to Tappan, NY. We'll all ride together. Hope you can join us. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Come join me for my first ride on a beautiful spring day! This is my first ride this spring so I plan on a relaxed, friendly ride. The speed will also depend on what kind of shape the trail is in, but figure about 11mph. Milage is approximate. It's out and back, so we as a group can decide when to turn around. https://maps.app.goo.gl/LtLhuW9REjWsYWWB6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy Please use this GPS link for your start location - it's the Gardiner Library lot. The trail is relatively flat. We can have lunch in either New Paltz or Gardiner. Make sure your bike is ready and you have a tube! We are on a gravel/dirt trail to prepare accordingly. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

An out and back to Nyack Beach to make the most of the gravel trail. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
94% unpaved, almost all very smooth. A very short stretch of hike a bike, maybe 100 feet where the road is rutted near the Gorge. Spectacular history of old railroad in NJ. How did Califon get its name? Ride will not go in rain ]
