Class 1 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

Riding with BTCNJ

All rides "roll" (depart) 15 minutes after the listed start time. This gives people time to set-up (check their bikes, add air to their tires, etc) and get signed-in.

Club rides are classified by four properties, which, together, give some indication of how difficult the ride is: the (1) length, the (2) speed / pace, (3) terrain, (4) surface (paved or unpaved).

Keep in mind that there are   Rider Responsibilities   and   Group Riding Rules   to participate on a club ride. Helmets are required on all club rides. Class 1 or 3 E-Bikes (pedal-assist only, with no throttle) are the only E-bikes allowed on BTCNJ club rides (E-Bike Policy).

➔ Make sure you are carrying a tube appropriate for your tire and any special tools needed to remove your wheels.

A pleasant ride to Jockey Hollow Visitors' Center, then on through scenic Jockey Hollow National Park and back through Morris Plains. Lunch stop in Morris Plains (MP26), home to adjacent bagel and felafel stores. Pretty, mostly quiet roads. Expect overall average to be in the low to mid 13's. No drops. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
We'll ride over to Rockland County and meander over the hills behind Nyack and then make a stop for coffee. If anyone wants to skip some of the climbing, they can take Bradley all the way to Highland and meet the group at the coffee stop. We'll return via Townline Rd. We'll do a brisk B pace on the flats and each do our own pace on all the climbs, regrouping at all the turns to make sure nobody is dropped. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
The classic Lincoln Park loop. Expect a mid-B pace on this very flat route. We'll get faster soon. No planned stops. Meet by the railroad tracks, not the gravel lot. Ride will not go in rain, wet roads, quicksand, very high winds, temps nearing/below 60, or zombie sightings. ]
Our usual Monday night ride, easy C* pace, stop at Dunkin Donuts at midway point. Bathrooms at start and break. Route may vary some each week. Please have front and rear lights to ensure safety. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
The paved path in Pequannock is complete at the Mountain View end, and I finally found its actual name: Pompton Valley Rail Trail. Let's check it out. We can meet Rocco the Rock Snake and cross Rte #23 more safely now. No bathroom at the start, but we'll stop at Green View Park at about mile 8. No actual deli stop planned, so bring a snack if you wish. Comfortable C pace and we'll all ride as one group. Hope you can join us. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

Let's ride up to Ramsey and then head towards Franklin Lakes where we will have a rest stop at Starbucks. Moderate B* pace with regrouping as needed so no one is dropped. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
This will be an evening training ride in the official B* range. The goal is to ride in a comfortably paced group taking turns on pulls while minimizing drops. NOTE: This is NOT a no-drop ride, ... so please don't drop me.lol : 🙃 Should be back by dark, but front and rear lights encouraged. 5:29 start from lot. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
We are riding to Nyack to visit one of the BTCNJ's favorite lunch stops: Patisserie Didier Dumas, or Didier's. Let's work up an appetite and then enjoy some French snacks and pastries. Please note: Since this ride is about enjoyment and not about speed, the ride leader promises that as long as a true "B" pace (13.0 to 14.9 mph) can be kept by a rider, then NO ONE will be dropped. If you like to ride as fast as possible, are looking to set a new personal speed record or if you need to be back at a certain time, then this may not be the ride for you. Thank you Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Join Dom and I for what was a great ride last fall. We'll meet in Edgewater and proceed all the way to Liberty State Park along the Hudson. Our libation will take a 2-step process - one for our sandwich, the other for a great ice cream place not far from the Jersey City Waterfront. Strong C riders are welcome. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
A quick afternoon ride through the lovely roads of Wyckoff. Pace with be around 10.5. No one will be dropped. We will meet in front of the Library. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

A longer route this week as the days continue to get longer. So what do you say...go for it & sign up now! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Our sources (i.e. Colleen) tell us that Clinton Road has just been repaved, so join Michelle and me as we head north up to Warwick and then take the long way around to Greenwood Lake over some beautiful roads. We'll stop at the Village Buzz in Greenwood Lake at mile 35, so be sure to bring enough fluids and nutrition. No bathroom at start, but there's a portapotty at mile 10. Moderate B* no-drop ride: we will regroup as needed. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Meet at 5:30 - leave at 5:45. Sunset is at 7:53. We expect to average somewhere between 16 and 17. This is an evening ride with heavy traffic. Please have rear blinking lights and wear bright clothing. It's a really good idea to have the GPS route loaded to your GPS device. Ride review dinner at Turvinos. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
A new way up esrr and back on wsrr. Fewer turns so nobody gets dropped. Average speed between 14-15 mph. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Our traditional up and back Wednesday night spin around Bergen County. We'll do our usual route to Old Stone Church (we’ll skip the park for now). We'll be aiming at ending average in the mid to high 15mph range. As always, we’ll be slower in the first half and faster on the way back. Please dress appropriately, wear brighter colors and don’t forget your lights. If interested, Turvino’s after the ride, to join other groups for pizza. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
That now "Famous" Meander is back. Yes, we are advertising 25+ miles but the total distance will not exceed 30 miles. Now that my co-leader got his Diddier "fix," not sure what libation stop we will ultimately go with. But libation stop there will be. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
The days are getting longer so we'll including Old Stone Church and Bergen Community College. It’s still early in the season so we’ll keep it to a true C* pace. Bring your front/rear lights and wear bright colored clothing to improve visibility for the group. As always, pizza to follow for those who are interested. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
Please join me on an easy meander through Ramsey, Allendale, and Waldwick. D RIDERS LOOKING TO ADVANCE TO C ARE ALSO WELCOME. Our average speed will be around 10MPH. Terrain is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED! Bathroom at mile 4.5. As a friendly reminder: Bring water, a helmet (mandatory), and have your bike in good working order. SHOULD BE EXPERIENCED AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR CYCLING LIFETIME: Very moving event, a palpable sense of the larger bicycling community, hosted in largest cathedral in the world, St. John the Divine. Bagpipers beforehand. Very Reverend Patrick Malloy, Dean of the Cathedral, will say a few kind words and then sprinkle our bikes with Holy Water. We observe a moment of silence to remember cyclists we’ve lost in the past year. Then everyone rings their bicycle bells in celebration of cycling. We will then ride a loop or two around Central Park before returning to the steps of St. John for pizza from V&T's , whose waiters prove that Surly is not just a bike brand. There is a parking fee at FT. Have you recently joined the club and are eager to ride, but are reluctant to join a group ride? This ride is meant to introduce new members to BTCNJ's group rides and is perfect to introduce you to safe and fun riding. "Oldies" are of course welcome as well. Before the start, we will take some time to go over group ride safety guidelines. We will ride comfortably and only go as fast as the slowest rider, we will stop and regroup as needed, NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED. The route is relatively flat and encompasses two loops, so if you are tired after the first loop (6 miles) you have the opportunity to cut the ride short. Please bring water, your helmet (mandatory), a spare tube and have your bike in good working condition. After the ride, there will be a tire changing clinic. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

In a galaxy not so far away…
Join me on the 2nd Annual May the 4th Be With You Century – an epic journey spanning 100 miles of adventurous terrain and lighthearted fun. This is no ordinary bike ride… it’s a galactic odyssey. Lightsabers optional, snacks required.

We blast off with 26 smooth, flat miles before making our first pit stop on the green, welcoming planet of Terhune Farms – where we’ll search for signs of intelligent life (read: bathrooms) and maybe even score some refreshments if the farmstand is open. May the porta-potty be clean and the cider be cold. At mile 50, we drop out of hyperspace for our official lunch stop. Reinforced and rehydrated, we resume our mission with renewed resolve. Around mile 80, we’ll hit one final supply depot – the last chance to grab rations, refill bottles, and prepare for the final leg back to base. Victory awaits.

•Pace: Mid to High B* – it’s mostly flat with some mild undulations, and we’ll keep the group together. No rider left behind, even if you fall to the dark side of bonking.

•Distance: 103 miles —steady, smooth(ish), and perfect for clocking light-years without worrying about asteroid fields (or steep climbs)

•Vibes: Jedi-level chill. Only GOOD VIBES on this ride

•Weather Protocol: If conditions look dicey, a go/no-go call will be posted by 6:45 AM.

Yes, the entire post is Star Wars-themed. No, I’m not seeking help. May your legs be strong, your snacks be salty, and your tires—tubeless or not—stay gloriously inflated. And if you hear strange beeping, don’t worry—it’s probably just your Garmin, not R2-D2. Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]

Please come join me on a different type of ride. We’ll be doing an out and back instead of a loop. We’ll will be making our way northeast into Westchester county. Most of which will be on the Empire State rail trail, so we won’t have to deal with cars, only some pedestrians, and other cyclists. We will take a brief bathroom stop over the TZ bridge before heading north. The rest stop will be at the bagel Euporium in Yorktown Heights.. After the break, we will retrace our route back to Piermont. NOTE! The Rwgps only shows the OUT part of the route. We will double back exactly the way we came, so we will not need to use gps on the way back. NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED! Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. ]
It has been just a little over a year since our friend and club member has passed away. Join us on this ride to remember him. This has always been one of his favorite rides and of course it will end with meeting up at Turvino's Pizza.

When you sign up for the ride PLEASE indicate if you will be going to Turvino's after the ride. If you cannot ride but want to join us for lunch - Sign up for the ride and indicate that it's ONLY FOR LUNCH.

Everyone is responsible for paying for their own lunch.

Ride will not go in rain or on wet roads. But we will meet for Lunch at 12:30. Rides with 20 or more riders will be split into 2 or more groups. ]
