  •  30-12 miles  •  New Members Ride - Spring Edition
Have you recently joined the club and are eager to ride, but reluctant to join a group ride? Join our Team of experienced leaders for our first New Members Ride of the season. There will be a brief overview of skills required for safe group riding. We will lead rides at four paces (B, C*, C, D), of varying distances, all leaving at the same time. The first few miles of each ride will be on the same route. If you are not sure of where you fit in, in terms of riding ability, the leaders will assist you in choosing a ride level. If that level turns out to be to challenging, there will be an opportunity to drop back by simply waiting for the group behind to reach you. •  15 miles  •  CANCEL DO TO RAIN. Paulinskill Valley rail trail bike ride
Hi Group The weather is look worse now for Sat.. The forecast is now 80% rain most of the day so I decided to cancel the bike ride. See all soon. Larry Note: Ride will not go in rain or wet roads. Terrain: Flat 0-25. Come join us for a very-nice, easy-pace bike ride along the Paulinskill Valley rail trail, which is a hard pack cinder trail and is good for any wide tire bikes. This is a very scenic bike ride so don't miss out on this wonderful ride. The plan will be to Meet and start at the Warbasse parking lot which is part of the NJ State Park, Paulinskill Valley rail trail and head to Swartswood lake area where we will have a very nice picnic lunch. Please bring your own lunch and please no alcohol. After lunch, we will head back to our cars. If you are interested in how this rail trail become what it is today, here is alittle history. Back in 1962, the Susquehanna Railroad removed their tracks from Sparta, NJ and beyond. Since then, the old right-of-way has become well-used by outdoor enthusiasts as a multipurpose trail for hikering, biking, horseback riding, skiing, fishing, and many other activities. But the trail was also under threat to be taken over by a number of industries and a pipeline, which would have taken the trail away for good. Back in the late 1980's, a group of people came up with an idea to save this beautiful trail and save it so all can enjoy it. They formed the Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee. It was a lot of hard work but they saved this trail and, with thirtyfive recreational and environmental organizations, have supported the public acquisition of the property for use as an all-weather, year-round trail. On October 3, 1992, the NJ State Park and NJ Green Acres purchased the trail and it became a State Park and, in October 23, 1992, the Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee and friends gathered at Waterwheel farm rail trail head to celebrate the purchase of the trail by the State of NJ and drove a ceremonial golden spike into an old Susquehanna railroad tie. So, without the Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee, we would not be able to enjoy this beautiful rail trail as what it is today. Please be on time and bring your own lunch, camera, bike and water. You must have a helmet and use it on this bike ride. Mileage of bike ride depends on the leader but should be no more then 15 miles, give or take. To drive to the meeting place: From Route 80, take I-80 West via EXIT 41B toward Del Water Gap. Merge onto RT-15 N via EXIT 34B toward Jefferson/Sparta. Turn slight left onto RT-94 Morris Farm Rd. Continue to follow RT-94. Take the 1st left onto Warbasse Junction Rd/CR-663. Park in lot on right. From Rt 23. Take RT-23 North. Turn left onto CR-631/Franklin Ave. Turn slight right onto Church St/CR-631. Continue to follow CR-631. Take the 3rd left onto CR-631/N Church Rd. Turn left onto RT-94. Turn right onto RT-15/RT-94. Turn slight left onto RT-94/Morris Farm Rd. Continue to follow RT-94Take the 1st left onto Warbasse Junction Rd/CR-663. Parking lot on right. Look for tall one in lot. We start this ride spinning at 14.5-15.0 mph for the first 4 miles to the climb, ascend at your own pace (with effort), regroup at the top and continue. We regroup at or immediately after each traffic light or turn. B* pace on the mostly descending return route. Coexistence with other traffic on the Saddle River Roads will be stressed. We're starting off slow and will increase the pace as the season progresses. The routes will be mostly flat with an occasional short climb. There are no cue sheets but there is a sweep and no one will be dropped. After the ride, we head to Turvino's Pizza to dine with our friends doing the C, C*, B*, and A rides. Ride length and route varies based on weather and daylight.

  •  40 miles  •  The weekly meander
We had our "test" run before Memorial Day and all went well, including the great company. So, Don & I decided to give it a weekly shot. So, here it is: Pending different notice, ride will start at Demarest and distances will be in the 40 miles range (+/-, give & take). Terrain will be rolling (though we could be throwing a hill or two to make things more interesting). Cue sheets will not be a sure thing but no one gets dropped and route selection will be up to the co-leader's choice du jour. Note: Ride will not go in rain or wet roads. Terrain: Rolling 26-45.

  •  76 miles  •  The Annual Arden Valley Hill Festival 2018
Note: Ride will not go in rain or wet roads. Terrain: Hilly 56-75 The annual assault up Arden Valley Road into Harriman State Park returns! Yes this is the most challenging B ride of the year but YOU CAN DO IT - especially if you joined me and Margaret on the various AVTRs the past few months. And remember if you can do this ride then you will have little trouble completing the Ramapo Rally century on Sunday August 19th. As always the weather will be hot and humid and the ride is hilly which means lots of sweaty fun! There will be a plenty of stops for water plus the traditional group photo at the mailboxes at mile 55. Please note that at least one leader will wait at the top of each climb so that NO ONE IS DROPPED!!! All we ask is that you are mentally and physically prepared to climb, sweat and keep an overall B pace. Bring plenty of water and a snack. Lunch stop and cue sheet. Please download and print out the cue sheet. GPS route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/8538753 Also please park in the parking lot on Mechanic Street, on the opposite side of the train tracks from the Farmer's Market. NOTE: Rain date: Sunday August 5th, 2018, same start location & time.
